Environmental Design

Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a multidisciplinary approach to deterring criminal behavior by designing environments that increase natural surveillance and reduce crime opportunities. CPTED is based on the principle that design and layout of a physical environment influences behavior and that by modifying the environment, crime can be reduced and event prevented. CPTED strategies can include design elements such as lighting, landscaping, and building layout, as well as policies and programs like community crime watch groups. CPTED is often used in urban planning, architecture, and community development to create safer, more secure communities.

RP Strategies incorporates elements of CPTED throughout all of our programs, and we work with participants to map out ways in which your physical environment can enhance safety to make you and your team feel more secure.

Principles of CPTED:
-Natural surveillance
-Natural access control
-Territorial reinforcement
-Maintenance and management
